In a very specified category of crash test ratings, the “small overlap test” is designed to mimic what would happen should the front corner of the Murano hit another object such as another vehicle or a street sign. On a scale of Good, Acceptable, Marginal, and Poor, the Nissan Murano was the only midsize SUV out of a handful of popular competitors like the Ford Flex and Hyundai Santa Fe to earn Good ratings in every single category that measured test dummy injury.
